WITH energy bills on the rise and winter creeping in, using luxuries like tumble dryers might be a thing of the past.

Laundry costs are a worry, even for the smallest families, but one budget-seeking mum has found the perfect hack to keep costs down.

She shared her little win on her TikTok page, budget_home27, showing followers how she’s overcoming the wet clothes battle - even on rainy days.

In the video, the mum sets up what looks like an outdoor washing line in an empty room of her house.

The timelapse shows her using pegs to hang her freshly washed clothes on each wire, giving each item enough space for air to flow through.

“As the weather turns I am determined not to be using the tumble dryer this winter,” the TikTok user wrote in her video caption.

“Personally I find clothes horses don’t allow free airflow so take too long to dry. My solution, a free-standing whirly.”

According to Uswitch, one tumble dryer cycle costs an average of 67p. So, if you’re a big family or just an active couple doing three loads of washing a week, you could rack up over £100 a year just to dry your clothes.

Washing clothes isn’t cheap either. Which? discovered that the average machine costs up to £40 a year to run four washes a week, but reducing the temperature to 30°C could cut bills by £15.

Heated air dryers can help you save up to £96 a year, if you also use the eco setting on your washing machine, but according to this TikTokker, her new purchase will pay for itself.

She appears to have bought her indoor rotating airer from Royal, priced between £30 and £40 online.

“Not super cheap at around £35 to buy it but will pay for itself in energy savings,” she explains.

The caption continues: “Clothes are not folded over and air is flowing between all items. Window open, door closed and almost everything was dry in around 12 hours. Towels need a little longer.”

“Not super cheap at around £35 to buy but will pay for itself in energy savings,” she explains.

The airer is a great addition, if you have space, and could even be taken on camping trips or used outside in spring and summer.

The TikTokker’s followers were quick to support her penny-saving idea, with one commenting: “Clothes horses are brilliant for drying clothes. I put mine by my front window. The sun shines there all day so they dry straight away.”

Another added: “I bought two, best thing I ever purchased.”
