SUPERMARKET spends are through the roof as shoppers grapple with a cost of living crisis.

But there's one way stores will reel you in that you can take advantage of and help slash the cost of your shop.

Plenty of supermarkets will offer you money off for creating an online account and completing your first shop.

Typically, once you sign up, you'll be given a discount code that you can use straight away.

This is usually the case for online orders - you won't typically be able to use this trick in stores.

But if you are able to shop online, then the handy hack could save you money.

Rising inflation means the price of everything on the supermarket shelves is going up.

The average family is thought to be forking out around £271 more a year on their food bill.

Of course, before you start filling your online basket, you should consider whether you could get your groceries cheaper elsewhere.

A discount code or money-off voucher might still leave you out of pocket if the food prices are higher than you'd usually pay.

Also remember to factor in delivery costs and where your nearest store is, in case you choose to click & collect.

It is always best to shop around when you're hunting for the best deals. .

But you don't have to stay loyal to one shop every time you need to restock the cupboards.

So, here's what you can get, just for signing up.

Sainsbury's shoppers can get £15 off their first shop when they sign up.

It has to be on an online order that's delivered on or before June 30, and you have to spend at least £60 on that haul.

You can, however, spend the money on whatever you like from its range - so you can stock up on toys and homeware instead of food if you prefer.

You need to register and fill in your details, then rack up an order that meets the minimum spend and apply a code to get your money off.

Type in "SSEO22JUN15" when prompted and you'll score a saving on that first shop.

Iceland is offering £5 off orders that tot up to at least £45 online.

You get the money off when you sign up for the first time, so you need to be a new customer to take advantage.

To claim, you have to make sure your basket meets the minimum spend requirement before applying the code "ICEFIVEOFF".

You also get free next day delivery, which is an added bonus.

At Morrisons, you can £10 off your shopping bill when you first sign up.

The budget supermarket requires you to spend at least £50 to qualify though.

Once you enter your details to register on its website, you'll spot a banner pop up at the top of the page that tells you everything you need to know about claiming your money off.

You'll get your very own code that you need to enter at the checkout once you've put together a bill that comes to the minimum spend requirement.

Shoppers can save £20 by signing up to posh online shop Ocado.

You then get the money off your first grocery shop with the store, so long as you spend over £60.

Just like Iceland, you get the added bonus of free delivery with your money off perk too.

To claim though, you need to enter "VOU3144132" at the checkout.

The offer is time sensitive though, so it won't stick around for ever.

You've got a little longer than some of the other examples though, as the discount doesn't end until September 9.

If you prefer to shop in-store, there's a trick you need to try as soon as you enter the doors to slash your spends.

You might also want to narrow your trolley dash down to certain aisles that you'll make the biggest savings in.
