If you're tired of the same old white/silver/black color that most home appliances come in, you'll appreciate what this internet user has done.

A recent social media post has gone viral after a user shared a video of her painting her washing machine purple.

Under the username reka_thornton_home, the woman shared the Instagram post on June 2, 2022, accompanied with an on-screen caption of "My husband told me not to paint the washing machine pink... Purple it is, then!"

Since it was published, the short clip has already received over half a million likes on Instagram, as well as 2,357 comments.

The short video shows a woman using a roller to paint her washing machine purple, before showing the end result of how it looks in her kitchen.

In the accompanying caption, she light-heartedly poked fun at her husband's request while also outlining her process: "Hehe, he didn't say it couldn't be another colour!? Here is how I did it: * Used kitchen degreaser to clean my washing machine * Painted the machine with chalk paint (2 coats) * Used clear indoor/outdoor lacquer to seal it * We had tile adhesive splashed all over it, and it didn't chip the machine, I've also washed it now, and it's still perfect * We loved it so much that I also painted the dishwasher, the extractor fan and my spice rack! Oops," the caption read.

The post was flooded with waves of positivity in the form of comments from amazed Instagram users:

"Ah, it looks great! (could've been green though)," one user joked.

"Absolutely love this, such a good colour choice, it's gorgeous," wrote another.

"You're very brave! It looks fabulous though," exclaimed one Instagram commenter.

Several users used the opportunity to join in on joking about the original poster's (OP) husband's request: "He needs to be more specific if he wants people to follow his demands!" wrote one Instagram user.

However, some Instagram users seemed agitated by the caption:

"Why wouldn't you want him to feel comfortable in his own home? Sad," said one comment. The OP responded to this simply: "It's a joke, lighten up."

Based on the rest of reka_thornton_home's Instagram profile, this wasn't the first time she has opted for bright decor in her home.

For example, one of her other posts shows that her bedroom is decorated with a bright pink bed, a yellow nightstand and sky-blue wallpaper covered in floral patterns.

According to Statista, washing machines are among the home appliances that Americans are the least likely to upgrade. For example, some 73% of survey respondents have shared that they have either already replaced or plan on replacing their refrigerator/freezer.

By contrast, only 12% have indicated the same desire to upgrade on their current washing machine.

This wouldn't be the first time that a DIY project has made the rounds on the internet. Newsweek previously covered a story about a woman who renovated her driveway for just $200, while Newsweek also discovered a man who used old pallets to build a bowling alley in his backyard.
