SPRINGFIELD — Big Y promises customers will be able to complete a grocery run, including shopping for fresh produce, at the Big Y Express Fresh Market the Springfield-based chain is developing in downtown’s Tower Square.

That would provide a solution to the chronic lack of fresh and healthy foods in the urban center, a problem that’s gotten these neighborhood branded as a “food desert.”
