As millions of Brits see a real-time squeeze on household budgets, making money go further and being money savvy is at the forefront of people’s minds. TV nutritionist Lily Soutter and supermarket Aldi have collaborated to create a guide for families to eat well for less, thanks to some simple frozen food swaps.

Each family meal costs as little as £1.98 or under 50p per head when customers buy products from Aldi stores. The Aldi frozen food initiative, which covers breakfast, lunch and dinner for a family of four for five full days, has been devised to help shoppers tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

The launch of the Aldi frozen meal plan follows reports that around nine in 10 households have felt the impact of rising costs. It is reported that over a third (35%) of Brits are now cutting back on spending on food shopping and essentials, according to official data from the Office for National Statistics.

Not only will the plan help families spend less than £29.77 per week, but Harley Street nutritionist Lily Soutter has ensured that each recipe is packed with nourishing yet affordable foods that form a well-balanced diet.

Meal plan pioneers can dish up plenty of delicious dishes. These include hearty King prawn fish pie, spicy pasta with meat-free meatballs and a veggie pizza.

Lily Soutter said: “This wonderfully nutritious and versatile plan we’ve created will not only help money go further, but will also make meal-times simpler and most importantly, affordable."

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Access to good quality food should be a right, not a privilege. The meal plans are designed to provide quick and easy inspiration for families who may be finding meal-times strenuous on the bank account during the ongoing crisis.”

Top tips from Lily on how to make the most out of the frozen food meal plan include using frozen fish, freezing bread and herbs to prolong shelf life and blitzing frozen fruit in smoothies or desserts.
